I have not kept this page up to date so well... for about 3 years now. So I thought we'd dive back in with the important things first.
My sweet baby girl is now 2 1/2 years old and is making some awesome progress with daytime potty training, but we are just not quite there yet. She does an incredible job staying dry if we are giving her hourly(ish) reminders to go try, but her body is just not telling her the cues independently yet. While we have not quite hit the ball out of the park yet, I wanted to share the tools we have found success with so far in our journey.
First of all, we use a whole lot of stickers! We started with just a basic chart to earn 100 stickers and get a big prize. We used big stickers and a Skittle for poos and little stickers for pee. We only gave stickers for successful eliminations and had her try every 30 minutes with lots of verbal reminders to "tell us if you need to go potty!". She did an amazing job with this stage. Within 2 days, she was successfully eliminating almost every time she sat down.

We use this potty seat and it made it exciting for her to be up on the big potty and fostered a sense of independence as she figured out how to climb up herself. We still put her in pullups for nap and night sleep, but she was doing an incredible job keeping dry big girl undies during her waking hours. Rylin filled her first chart in about 10 days. She got a set of Mickey and Minnie Mouse stuffies as her big prize and just left her sticker chart up on the wall with the option of continuing to put her stickers on it. |
This continued to work well for a couple weeks, but as our reminder periods grew longer, the motivation started dwindling. Eventually, we realized she needed another visual to keep her on track. So I created a new printable chart with a focus on accident-free days! I print this out each week in the color of her choice. We make tally marks for any accidents that do happen, but we offer a big sticker as her "hip hip hooray" sticker to place in that box on a day with 0 accidents! In addition to the fun sticker, we also offer some sort of treat or prize for non accidents - a homemade fruit popcicle after dinner, a treat (if we have any sweet treats on hand) a game before bed, and extra book at bedtime, etc.
While we do still have the occasional accident, her steaks of days with 0 accidents have been gradually growing (current record is 10 days in a row) I know as we continue to stick to her routine it will cick soon.
